Five days in Cairo for families who want the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum without the exhausting schedule. Slower mornings, longer lunches, pool time every afternoon. Kids get the highlights — camel ride at Giza, a boat ride on the Nile, a bazaar with things to look at.
No flights, no Nile cruise, no repacking. You stay at Steigenberger Pyramids the whole time, in a family room. 10 minutes from the Giza plateau.
We’ve run this itinerary with kids from age 5 up. Most days end by 3-4 PM. The rest of the afternoon is pool time. This is not a sprint through Egypt — it’s a relaxed intro that leaves kids wanting to come back.
What you actually see
Day 1. Arrival. Rest. Pool. Our tour coordinator meets you briefly to review the schedule and confirm any kid-specific needs.
Day 2. Giza Plateau in the morning. Camel ride (30 minutes). Then the Grand Egyptian Museum in the afternoon — 2 hours, air-conditioned, cafe break halfway through. Back at the hotel by 4 PM.
Day 3. Saqqara, Dahshur, and Memphis. The Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara is 4,700 years old — older than Giza. Kids can enter the Red Pyramid at Dahshur if they’re brave — it’s a tight tunnel but they’ll remember it. Memphis has a giant statue of Ramses II lying on its back, worth a quick photo.
Day 4. Old Cairo (Coptic Cairo) — the Hanging Church has a story kids like (it was built on top of a Roman fortress). Then Khan el-Khalili bazaar in the afternoon — it’s a market with shops selling lanterns, spices, and souvenirs. Evening felucca sail on the Nile — 1 hour, traditional sailboat, best at sunset.
Day 5. Free morning. Optional Egyptian Museum in Tahrir (short visit) or nothing at all. Airport transfer.
What makes this tour different for families
Slower mornings. Breakfast until 9:30 AM. First pick-up at 9:00 AM, not 7:30. Kids need sleep on vacation.
Pool time every afternoon. Days end by 3-4 PM. The Steigenberger Pyramids pool is open until sunset. Kids swim, parents rest.
Kid-friendly activities. Camel ride at Giza. Red Pyramid entry at Dahshur. Felucca sail at sunset. The bazaar at Khan el-Khalili. These are the moments your kids will remember.
Shorter site visits. Giza is 2 hours, not 4. The GEM is 2 hours, not 3. We cut the far parts and keep the highlights.
Familiar food options. Lunch restaurants have pasta, chicken, fries alongside Egyptian dishes. Tell us about picky eaters in advance.
Kid-friendly guide. We assign a guide who’s good with children — patient, tells stories, knows when to move on.
The hotel
Steigenberger Pyramids (Cairo, 4 nights). 5-star, family rooms with two beds plus a sofa bed. Pool, several restaurants, spa. 10 minutes from the Giza plateau. 45 minutes from downtown in normal traffic.
Age recommendations
Ages 8+ — ideal. Kids can handle 2-3 hours of walking per day, enjoy the museum, and understand what they’re seeing.
Ages 5-7 — doable. They’ll love the camel ride, the felucca, and the bazaar. Museums are hit-or-miss. Bring activities for the van.
Ages 3-4 — possible but harder. Bring a stroller. Skip Saqqara and Dahshur (no shade, uneven ground). We can swap Day 3 for a slower Cairo day if needed.
Under 3 — wait a few years.
About pricing
The $1,200 base price is per person, double occupancy, low season (May-September). Peak season (October-April) is $1,400-1,600 per person. Kids under 12 sharing a room with two adults get 25% off. Infants under 2 travel free (no separate bed). Christmas and Easter weeks are higher — book early.

Honest notes
Giza is hot. Even in winter, midday temperatures hit 25°C. The plateau has no shade. We go at 9 AM to be done by 11:30. Bring hats, sunscreen, and water bottles for the kids.
The camel ride is optional. Some kids love it, some are scared. If your child doesn’t want to ride, we skip it and save the time for the GEM.
The Red Pyramid at Dahshur is tight. The passage is 60 meters bent over, then a steep staircase, then 60 meters back. Kids 8+ usually love it. Kids under 8 might get scared. If your child doesn’t want to enter, they can wait outside with you — the pyramid itself is impressive from the outside.
Khan el-Khalili is a market. Vendors will call out and try to get you into their shops. Not aggressive, but persistent. Tell your kids in advance — the attention can be overwhelming. We brief the guide to keep the visit short (1 hour max).
Day 5 timing depends on your flight. If your international flight leaves Cairo in the late afternoon or evening, we can arrange the Egyptian Museum in the morning. If it leaves in the morning, direct transfer to the airport.
If you want the Nile cruise, book the 8-day Egypt Family Tour with Nile Cruise instead. It adds Luxor, Aswan, and four nights on the river.
