Itinerary:

My Egypt Travel brings you this fast-paced aerial exploration of Upper Egypt’s capital, allowing you to maximize your sightseeing in Luxor with a one-hour flight from your starting location.

Your journey begins with an early morning transfer to the airport for a short flight to Luxor. Upon arrival, your Egyptologist guide will meet you and accompany you to the West Bank.

Start at the Valley of the Kings. The formal names and titles of the pharaohs are inscribed in their tombs, along with their images and statues. Most of the tombs were cut into the limestone following a similar pattern: three corridors, an antechamber, and a sunken sarcophagus chamber.

Next, visit Hatshepsut Temple. A tree-lined avenue of sphinxes led up to the temple, and ramps led from terrace to terrace. The porticoes on the lowest terrace were restored to protect the celebrated reliefs depicting the transport of obelisks to Karnak and the birth of Queen Hatshepsut. Reliefs on the south side of the middle terrace show the queen’s expedition by way of the Red Sea to Punt, the land of incense.

Following lunch, you will explore the East Bank, starting with Karnak Temple. Although badly ruined, no site in Egypt is more impressive than Karnak. It is the largest temple complex ever built by man, a combined achievement of many generations of ancient builders. The Temple of Karnak is actually three main temples, smaller enclosed temples, and several outer temples.

Finally, visit Luxor Temple, the center of the most important festival, the festival of Opet. Built largely by Amenhotep III and Rameses II, the temple’s purpose was as a setting for the rituals of the festival, designed to reconcile the human aspect of the ruler with the divine office.

In the late afternoon, you will be transferred back to Luxor Airport for your return flight.
