Itinerary:

My Egypt Travel offers this challenging but deeply rewarding overnight journey by bus to retrace the footsteps of Moses on Mt. Sinai and visit the historic monastery below.

Your trip begins late in the evening (typically around 10:00 PM) with a pickup from your hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh. You’ll travel in an air-conditioned comfort bus approximately 142 miles (230 kilometres) towards the mountains.

Upon arrival near the foot of the mountain, you will begin the climb up Moses’ Mountain (Mt. Sinai), accompanied by your personal Egyptologist guide. The climb takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.

You will reach the summit just before dawn to watch the magnificent sunrise over the surrounding Sinai Mountains. This is the site where Moses is believed to have received the 10 Commandments. Note that the descent is not too steep, but there are around 500 steps at the very summit.

On your journey back down the mountain, you will stop at St. Catherine’s Monastery, built between 527 and 565 A.D. The monastery is believed to have been built around the site of Moses’ Burning Bush. During your visit, you will enter the chapel of a Greek Orthodox church to see famous icons and the Mosaic of Transfiguration.

After the monastery visit and included breakfast, you will begin the return journey back to Sharm el-Sheikh by bus.
