Five days in Cairo over Easter week. No flights, no Nile cruise, no rushing. The Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Saqqara, Dahshur, and the Islamic and Coptic sites of old Cairo.

Honest framing: You’re not going to Egypt “for Easter.” Egypt is a majority-Muslim country. Coptic Orthodox Easter is May 2 in 2027 — five weeks after Western Easter. Western Easter (March 28) isn’t observed locally. What you get instead: perfect spring weather (22-25°C in Cairo), and fewer crowds than Christmas. Easter week works because of the climate, not the holiday.

You stay at Steigenberger Pyramids for all four nights, 10 minutes from the Giza plateau. Same room the whole time. No flights, no repacking.

What you actually see

Day 1 (Mar 26). Arrival and rest. Our tour coordinator meets you at the hotel to review the itinerary and confirm pick-up times.

Day 2 (Mar 27). Giza Plateau in the morning — three pyramids, the Sphinx, the Valley Temple. Then the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in the afternoon.

Day 3 (Mar 28 — Easter Sunday). Citadel of Saladin and the Alabaster Mosque. Coptic Cairo (Hanging Church, Ben Ezra Synagogue). Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Note: Coptic churches in Egypt observe Western Easter this year as a regular Sunday, since their Easter is May 2. The Hanging Church runs normal visiting hours.

Day 4 (Mar 29). Saqqara, Dahshur, and Memphis — the “pyramids before the Pyramids.” The Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara is 4,700 years old, older than Giza. The Red Pyramid at Dahshur is the first true pyramid ever built.

Day 5 (Mar 30). Free morning. Optional Egyptian Museum in Tahrir or a Nile felucca ride. Airport transfer.

Why Easter week works for Cairo

Weather. Late March in Cairo is close to perfect. 22-25°C, sunny, dry. Not as hot as May, not as cool as January.

Crowds. Easter week is busy but not as bad as Christmas. Hotel prices are lower than December. Sites are less packed.

School breaks. European and American school spring breaks line up with Easter week. If you’re traveling with kids, the dates work without pulling them out of school.

Khamsin note. Khamsin is a hot, dusty wind that blows in Egypt in March and April. It usually lasts 2-3 days. If it hits during your trip, we adjust the schedule — indoor sites (GEM, Egyptian Museum) instead of outdoor ones. Rare but possible.

The hotel

Steigenberger Pyramids (Cairo, 4 nights). 5-star, pyramid views from some rooms. Pool, several restaurants, spa. 10 minutes from the Giza plateau. 45 minutes from downtown in normal traffic.

Important note on pricing

The $1,300 price is for this fixed Easter departure, double occupancy. Easter is high season in Egypt — hotels charge peak rates, but slightly lower than Christmas. Book by January for the best room selection. If you need different dates, we can run a modified version — the weather window (March-April) is what matters most, not the specific holiday.

Honest notes

Easter is not a big holiday in Egypt. No decorated streets outside 5-star hotels, no special Easter menus, no Easter services in most churches (their Easter is May 2). Egypt is majority-Muslim and Western Easter is a normal weekend here. What you get is the weather and the empty-ish sites.

Saqqara and Dahshur on Day 4 have almost no shade. By late March the midday sun is strong. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and more water than you think you need. The Red Pyramid passage at Dahshur is tight — 60 meters bent over, then 60 meters back. If you’re claustrophobic or have back problems, skip the interior. The outside view is still worth the stop.

Day 3 is the busiest day. Citadel + Coptic Cairo + Khan el-Khalili is a lot of moving. If you want to slow down, skip Khan el-Khalili — it’s the least essential stop. Coptic Cairo is the better half of the day.

Day 5 timing depends on your flight. If your international flight leaves Cairo in the late afternoon or evening, we can arrange the Egyptian Museum in the morning. If it leaves in the morning, no sightseeing — direct transfer to the airport.

If you want the Nile cruise, book the 8-day Egypt Easter & Nile Cruise tour. It runs March 26 to April 2 and includes Luxor, Aswan, and the Nile cruise.

Who this is for

  • Travelers on spring break who want Cairo without multi-city logistics
  • Couples and honeymooners
  • Families with kids (the pace is gentle, all in Cairo)
  • Anyone who wants a fixed, no-surprises spring departure

Who this is not for

  • Travelers who want to celebrate Easter in a Christian-majority country
  • Anyone who wants Luxor or a Nile cruise (book the 8-day version)
  • Budget travelers — Easter week is still peak season
  • Anyone who wants to decide dates last-minute (this is a fixed departure)

12:00 PM — Lunch at a local restaurant near the plateau. Koshari, grilled chicken, or a mixed grill.

2:00 PM — Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). Allow 2.5 hours. The Tutankhamun galleries are the main draw. The grand staircase has a view over the Pyramids through the glass wall. Air-conditioned — a relief after the plateau.

5:00 PM — Back at the hotel. Evening free. If you want the Sound & Light Show at the Pyramids, we can arrange it (extra $35).

10:30 AM — Coptic Cairo (Old Cairo). The Hanging Church, the Church of St. Sergius, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue. Small streets, real community, no vendors yelling at you. Note: Coptic Easter is May 2 this year, so the churches are running normal hours today.

12:30 PM — Lunch at a local restaurant in Old Cairo. Egyptian home-style food — molokhia, roast chicken, rice.

2:00 PM — Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Afternoon visit. The coffee at El Fishawy is worth the stop. Don't buy anything on the first price.

Day 4 29 March — Saqqara, Dahshur & Memphis

7:30 AM — Breakfast at the hotel. Drive south to Saqqara (45 minutes from Giza).

Don't skip the Imhotep Museum on-site — it's small, air-conditioned, and has the oldest stone-carved statues in Egypt.

10:30 AM — Drive to Dahshur (15 minutes).

10:45 AM — Dahshur. Two pyramids: the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid. The Red Pyramid is the first true pyramid (smooth sides, no bend). You can enter it — free with your ticket. 3:00 PM — Back at Steigenberger Pyramids. Afternoon and evening free.

Is Easter a public holiday in Egypt? +

No. Egypt is majority-Muslim. Coptic Orthodox Easter is May 2 in 2027 — five weeks after Western Easter. Western Easter (March 28, 2027) isn't observed locally. Sites, restaurants, and shops run normally. The reason to come at Easter is the spring weather and the fewer crowds than Christmas, not the holiday itself.

Is this a fixed departure or can I choose dates? +

Fixed for the Easter week window. The 2027 departure runs March 26 to March 30. If you need different dates, we can run a modified version — the weather window (March-April) is what matters most.

What's the weather like in Cairo in late March? +

Close to perfect. 22-25°C, sunny, dry. Not as hot as May, not as cool as January. Evenings are cool (15-18°C) — bring a light jacket.

What's the Khamsin wind? +

Khamsin is a hot, dusty wind that blows in Egypt in March and April. It usually lasts 2-3 days. If it hits during your trip, we adjust the schedule — indoor sites (GEM, Egyptian Museum) instead of outdoor ones. Rare but possible.

Can I see a Coptic Easter service? +

Coptic Easter is May 2, 2027. If you're in Egypt then, tell us and we can arrange a service visit at a Coptic church in Cairo. The service is long (3-4 hours) and mostly in Coptic and Arabic.

Is the tour suitable for kids? +

Yes. The pace is gentle, all in Cairo, no flights. Kids who can handle 3-4 hours of walking per day will enjoy it. Day 4 (Saqqara and Dahshur) involves uneven ground — bring a stroller for toddlers.

Is the tour suitable for wheelchair users? +

Not for this tour. Coptic Cairo has uneven cobblestones, Khan el-Khalili has narrow alleys, and the Citadel has steps at the mosque entrance. For wheelchair users, book our 3-day or 5-day wheelchair accessible Cairo tours — they cover the same city with realistic accessible routes.

Can I add the Nile cruise? +

Yes — book the 8-day Egypt Easter & Nile Cruise tour. It runs March 26 to April 2 and includes Luxor, Aswan, and the Nile cruise.

Can I stay an extra night? +

Yes. We can add nights at Steigenberger Pyramids — around $180-220 per room per night, breakfast included. Tell us in advance — spring break availability is limited.

How much should I tip? +

Budget $10-15 per person per day for the guide and driver. Tips are not included in the price. In Egypt, tipping is expected, not optional.
