Itinerary:
Your dedicated My Egypt Travel representative will collect you from your hotel in Alexandria for the approximately 2.5-hour journey to Cairo in a luxurious air-conditioned vehicle. The day is dedicated to exploring the city’s rich Islamic and Coptic sites.
The tour begins with a visit to the Saladin Citadel of Cairo, an imposing medieval fortress. Inside the Citadel, you will explore the magnificent Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque and the historical Al-Gawhara Palace, which showcases Mamluk and Ottoman architectural styles. Following this, you will visit the vast Ibn Tulun Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Egypt, and the adjacent Gayer-Anderson Museum. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, you will move on to Old Cairo, the heart of the city’s Coptic community. Here, you will discover the remains of the ancient Roman Fortress of Babylon. You will visit the famous Hanging Church (also known as Al-Mo’allaka Church), followed by the Abu Serga Church (Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church), which is traditionally believed to have sheltered the Holy Family during their time in Egypt. The Coptic exploration concludes with the rich treasury collection at the Coptic Museum.
Finally, you will be driven back to Alexandria to be dropped off at your hotel or ship.
