You will spend a few hours exploring the largest island of the region, which played an important role in Egyptian history due to its strategic location at the First Cataract of the Nile, serving as a natural boundary between Egypt and Nubia.

Travel will be by traditional Felucca (or motorboat if there are strong Nile currents for safety reasons) across the water to the island.

Your guide will introduce you to the ancient town, which was a fortress through much of its history and was once known as Abu (Elephant) or Yabu due to its status as a major trading post for many commodities, including ivory. The ancient town was also referenced as Kom, after its principal god, Khnum (Khnemu).

You will have time to explore the ancient artifacts that date back to predynastic periods before returning to the mainland in Aswan.
