Itinerary:

Day 1: Journey to El Minya and Tuna El Gabal

Your dedicated My Egypt Travel representative will collect you from your hotel in Cairo or Giza for the approximately 4-hour drive south to El Minya. Upon arrival in El-Minya, you will commence your visit by exploring the city’s key historical site: the Great Plain of Amarna. This is the sacred spot where Pharaoh Akhenaton is believed to have received his divine inspiration to found his new capital, Akhetaten (Tel El Amarna). Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Afterward, the tour proceeds to Tuna El Gabal, the expansive necropolis where you will visit the Tomb of Petosiris, the impressive Ibis Catacombs, and the renowned Tomb of Isadora, a 2nd-century A.D. burial site belonging to the woman famous for her beauty in Hermopolis. Following the day’s discoveries, you will check into your hotel for an overnight stay in El Minya.

Day 2: Beni Hassan, Tel El Amarna, and Return to Cairo

In the morning, your My Egypt Travel representative will pick you up to drive to the site of Beni Hassan, famous for its Middle Kingdom rock-cut tombs of regional governors (Nomarchs). Here, you will visit several notable tombs, including the Tomb of Bakhet III (Governor of the Oryx Nome), the Tomb of Khnumhotep (Governor under Amenemhat III in the 12th Dynasty), and the Tomb of Khety (a governor during the 11th Dynasty), which all feature vivid biographical and daily life scenes. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. The journey continues to Tel El Amarna (Akhetaten), the short-lived capital built by Akhenaten. You will explore the Northern Tombs, including the tombs of Ahmose and Huya. Following the comprehensive tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Cairo.
